I heart bamboo

April 21, 2008

We had such a fun trip to Sebastapol on Saturday!  The weather was amazing (and the wind that howled everywhere else was nonexistent) and it was so nice to hang out with Tami… my oldest friend.  She’s not the oldest, she’s the longest running! 🙂

We had a wildly successful bamboo hunting expedition!  She had thinned the herds significantly already, but I was able to glean some great pieces that were already dying off.  That means they were already dry and ready to paint!

and After…..

The ends of the bamboo aren’t painted because 1. I needed a handhold, 2. they’re too thin/flimsy to hold up yards of fierce satin, and 3. this was the first coat so the rest looks kind of thin.  Lacquer likes lots of thin layers so as not to drip and run.

The shelf you see is an amendment to my hallway re-do.  I’m not happy with the clear file sorter for a number of reasons, so I am repurposing this shelf that I accidentally knocked off the bathroom wall… I think it looks much sleeker now and no longer screams PIER ONE!!!! 🙂

  1. These are going to be Yummy! (and I am such a fan of NEVER screaming “pier one” 😉 )

Nice day on Saturday, huh? Meanwhile we were assailed with snow and hail up here!

  2. […] Therapy — Emily @ 9:52 pm The clear plastic sorter just wasn’t working for me.  My Un-Pier One’d, newly lacquered white shelf is much more Girlie Modern […]
