Have camera phone, will travel

May 7, 2008

I must say, my cell phone takes pretty good pics (and some not-so-good ones, as seen various places in this blog), and it’s a pretty nice day here today.  So I put them to together and played tourist on the way back from the dentist.

Take a tour down Sutter with me, won’t you?

My first real job (ie:  corporate slavery) was on the 12th floor of this building.  There are radiators under each window, and that’s the only form of heat.  AC?  They don’t need no stinkin’ AC!  (Really, 98% of the time they don’t, but when they do… it’s a retro kind of hell!)

I always thought it reminded me of Sigourney Weaver’s apartment building in Ghost Busters 🙂

111 Sutter Street

Back when beautiful design was part of daily life.  Heading down Sutter Street from Union Square toward the FiDi there are beautiful light posts.  Light posts!  Beautiful light posts!  They don’t make those any more!

Once you hit Market on Sutter and east from there the buildings change to distinctly modern/contemporary.  There were certainly a lot of cement box atrocities committed in the 1960’s, and some super tacky early 80’s magenta marble monsters, but I am lucky to work in the silvery smooth One Front street building that is peeking out from behind the brick beauties.

Oh man… I really AM distracted by shiny things!  I WORK in a shiny thing!! 😛
