I’m sure you can see me beaming from there!

May 27, 2008

The mail, as a rule, is not my friend.  It delivers mostly financial encumbrances and things to shred.

On Saturday a letter from the San Francisco Unified School district arrived.  Generally that’s not a good thing.  Generally it’s news of the Little Missy not keeping her hands to herself on the bus, or demanding that I pony up for yet another lost library book.

This time the SFUSD wrote to proclaim my child’s brilliance!

Smartypants is officially GATE identified:  she’d gifted and talented!  She was identified at the first opportunity (3rd grade – many kids are identified in later grades) and the official qualification was her standardized test scores in both language arts and math being in the 90th percentile

And I was worried that she’d be labeled as “problem child”, “trouble” or “kingpin”…  but I can rest easy that her label is “brain”! 😀
