Have I sinned?

July 11, 2008

Curbly posted the 25 Biggest Decorating Mistakes.  Let’s see if I’ve committed any mortal sins…

25. ‘Contour’ toilet rugs   No rugs in the bathroom – Kenai likes to “punish” me for full litterboxes on bathroom rugs

24. Too many photos displayed  I’m still a little wary of putting stuff on the walls after all this damn painting

23. Ignoring your entry way/foyer  My hallway was the first to receive the grand treatment 😀

22. Exposed cables—of the media variety  Only the Dish cable, but it’s run around the edge of the room and is slated for better hiding

21. Out of place, themed rooms (a Bali bedroom in Alaska would be a no-no)  No themes

20. Outdated hardware and accessories  Oops – I still have my tacky fake brass door knobs.  Crap

19. Lop-sided furniture arrangements  I don’t have enough room to be lopsided!

18. Keeping something you hate  Working on purging the last of Him Who’s Name Shall Not Be Spoken from my bedroom

17. Too formal décor (spaces shouldn’t be uninviting ‘museum rooms’)  Formal?  HAHAHAHAH

16. Uncomfortable dining chairs  Hmmm, I think my couch and my side chair are lovely, comfy dining chairs!

15. Lack of a traffic pattern through rooms  My rooms are one big traffic pattern, but mostly from the front door to my room, and to the fridge 😉

14. Making everything matchy-matchy  I laugh at matchy-matchy!  That would imply I can afford to buy sets of things!

13. Following ‘fads’  I hope what I’ve chosen is on the timeless side of things, though I do think the gray is very fashion-forward

12. Furniture that’s too big for a room, making it cramped  ANYTHING is big in my little hovel, so there’s not much of it

11. Too many colors or patterns in a room (they suggest, a safe bet is to stick to one large pattern, one small and a stripe or plaid)  Let’s see… gray, turquoise, greige, white.  Everywhere.  Nope, safe on this one!

10. ‘Floating’ area rugs (the front feet of the furniture arranged around the area rug should be placed on the rug to anchor it)  The only rug can’t help but be anchored – it’s too big for the room

9. Improper lighting (they stress the importance of having dimmers on overhead lighting)  Lighting is still in progress.  The overhead light is banned as work of the devil.  If anything the lighting is still not quite sufficient.  But I loooove living in a cave.

8. Artwork hung too high  Absolutely not!  This is a crime against humanity!

7. Tacky couch covers  My couch is too much a thing of beauty to think of covering!

6. Up-against-the-wall furniture arrangements  Only the couch, except when Haley pushes the chair back up against the window – which makes me crazy.

5. Ignoring window treatments  Window treatments have been the bane of my existence!  I am learning to sew so I can have the “right” ones, ferchrissakes!

4. Fear of color  HAHAHAHAHAHA.  That’s funny.  (Rae, how about you? hahahahaha)

3. Knick-knack overload  I have knick-knack underload.  Books, on the other hand….

2. Too many pillows on sleeping or sitting surfaces  On my bed, yes.  But they are real pillows.  Too many pillows take the place of “company” so I have no problem with that.  Pillows don’t leave piss on the floor next to the toilet.

1. Fake flowers  I likey my fresh flowers!

Ok, I feel pretty good after that!  How about you??

  1. A tiny little sin can be forgiven!

  2. COLOR??????? Me scared!
