What I learned from committing a Federal offense

October 17, 2008

The mailroom at work delivered to me a piece of McCain campaign material.  It was addressed to my boss and I open all his mail, but being a felon sounds much sexier 😛

This is what I learned:

  1. I am an “Obama Democrat”.  Well I am, I guess, but apparently that’s a bad thing.
  2. I am totally out of touch with “The Issues”.  McCain said, “We must make this campaign about the issues”.  So I guess this means that “The Issues” are not the economy but Ayers, ACORN and repeating long debunked factoids like the fine Joe the (unlicensed) Plumber will have to pay for not giving health insurance to his (fictional) employees.  Okay…
  3. Most importantly John McCain can in no way understand what it is like to be me.  Thankfully, I think Barack Obama can.

The McCain/Palin urgent request for contributions came by US Mail.  If that weren’t *ahem* old school enough, the heading says “Emergency Telegram”.  Telegram?  I am sure some people of voting age have no idea what a telegram is.  Barack sends me emails and text messages.

Emergency contributions to the McCain/Palin campaign come in denominations of “$5,000, $2,500, $1,000, $500, $100, $50 or $35.”  Yes, in that order.  Obama/Biden requests ask for $5 or $10, or more if you possibly can.

Not only have I given $10 and $25, once I even gave $50.  I have contributed on 5 occasions now.  More than a million people have been able to help with at least $5.  Want to know how quickly that adds up?  Obama is appealed to all the little guys and together we have helped him raise almost double the money that McCain has.

Obama doesn’t have a cash cow heiress wife personal wealth to help fund his run for the White House.  He has a lot of people like me.
