Something to ponder: racism

October 21, 2008

Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?…..think about it. Would the country’s collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?

Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five?
(The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Educational Background:

Barack Obama:
Columbia University – B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science
Syracuse University College of Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

vs.

John McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank: 894 of 899

Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in Journalism

Education isn’t everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. You make the call.

  1. obama is actually trying to improve this nation while McCain is just telling us a lot of crap he needs to come up with some ideas so that united states doesn`t become bankrupt

  2. McCain you need to stop with the racism because you will lose all your votes to Obama which you already are because your ideas suck and we are tried of the Republicans screwing everything up we need a democrat in power now so say bye-bye McCain because honey you are out, and i pray to god that these people vote for Obama because we don`t want McCain in power at all because if he wins god help our soul

  3. Surely with the points you’ve listed there and also points the media has presented Obama is clearly the choice people should go for.

Is McCain using the race card saying that Obama might get votes purely because he is black?

I was reading an article yesterday about how “closet racists” might not be able to bring themselves to vote for Obama even though they may vote for him in the polls.

It seems as though the logical choice is Obama but will logic prevail?

  4. Chris… oh how I love to get opinions from across the pond! 😀

Of course he seems to logical choice to many, but there are almost as many for whom McCain is the obvious choice. I certainly don’t fault them their opinion, but I wonder if it would be the same if the human mind were truly capable of being color-blind. I have to admit that I was kind of shocked to put the shoe on the other foot, so to say. Imagining Barack to be the oft-propagating adulterer who underachieved academically was a real eye-opener.

But if our brand of logic does not prevail you may see me return to my homelands there in the UK – oops – to Scotland. (Shit – I may have just gotten myself disowned for that 😉 )

  5. Hmmm, surely switching Obama to being the “oft-propogating adulterer who underacheived academically” shows that “real” Obama is even more of a logical choice?

McCain might be a nice guy that’s more than up to the job as far as I know but it seems that Obama has the credentials (more so than his counterpart) and in theory there wouldn’t be any racism invovled?

Then again, I would’ve loved for Hillary to have won just to see Bill being the First Lady who was a man!

  7. HAHAHA … and this is the man who wants to conduct diplomacy on our behalf. Uh, let me think about that for a second. NOT!

I’ll give him a slip or two (because God knows I open mouth+insert foot often enough!), but we’ve all heard he has called his wife The C Word, so I’ll have to pass on my vote for him.
