Resolutions? I only have one…

December 31, 2010

… and it’s a whopper.

In 2011 I resolve to create beauty in all aspects of my life.

For 38 years I have lived a pretty utilitarian life. I do what I need to do. I am quite efficient. I am very hard on myself when it comes to the things that I have to do – but I am overly gentle on myself beyond that.

(I think that’s a euphemism for lacking discipline…)

My life is happy and I have everything I could ever hope for. Of course, I aspire to improvements, but I can’t find fault in any of the basics!

Making a meaningful resolution required some thought. Of course I could say diet, exercise, blah blah blah but how genuine is that? That would guarantee I would totally fail by January 5th and spark a shame spiral that but me in a worse state as far as my physical health.

Instead I am resolving to create beauty in all of the already wonderful parts of my life. Getting on the exercise bike will help create a more beautiful body. Making food that is beautiful and creative will help cut down on my mindless snacking. Keeping a beautiful home will keep me on task when I don’t want to pick up the clothes drifts that accumulate on the floor on my side of the bed. Learning photography will help me see the beauty that surrounds me, if I just look close enough. Keeping connected with all my beautiful friends and family makes for beautiful memories and relationships. Being mindful and meditative of my daily chores will help me stay appreciative of all I have and maintain this home that I love.

So my resolution is singular but will impact everything in my life. My life is very good – and it deserves to be as beautiful as can be – because everyone in it, even me, deserves it.

So, what are your resolutions?

  1. Yay for our plans in March/April. They will fit very nicely into your goals for 2011. We will both beautify our friendship as well as our troubled skin.

  2. awesome resolution 🙂

  3. Your resolution is lovely and completely doable!
