Such busy little bees we were

January 31, 2011

Ok, all y’all know that decorating is just about my most favorite hobby in the world. Moving in to this house has been a very long process… more settling in than decorating. This weekend we finally got around to some PROJECTS – YAY!!

A big fat gigantic THANK YOU goes out to The Man for being a perfect project partner! He helped when I asked, did an amazing job, and steered clear when I was acting a total maniacal bitch not so pleasantly.

First up… The Man and his friend finally got rid of the God-awful, non-functioning light fixtures over the fireplace. They are much more appropriate to the house and cast a lovely light, if I do say so myself!

Then we got around to solving some storage issues. We were given a massive dresser (thanks Mark and Chelle!) but it was not really my taste. Even if it was, I’m not known to leave well enough alone 😉

I went to Lowe’s and really only spent about 5 minutes looking at paint chips. If you’ve been following me for a while you will know that this is insane unusual for me. I generally hem and haw and change my mind about 6,000 times. Then I buy 3 samples, try them and decide none are right. This process is generally repeated 4 more times until I arrive at a color that is sufficient but still not what I envisioned. By then I am so sick of it that I live with it and move on.

Not this time. Even though the color I chose for the dresser in my convoluted mind would dictate the rest of the design decisions for the entire bedroom, I grabbed a chip and had my paint mixed.

So I sanded and I primed. Then after the first coat of paint I panicked. Holy crap! This was not going well!!

But I persevered. Two more coats of paint and HOLY CRAP THIS WENT REALLLLLLLY WELL!

I could not possibly love it more! (And I think Mark and Chelle want it back now! HA!)

We cleaned and scrubbed and pretty much got the house in the best shape ever!!! I was so stoked to wake up to a house that tickles me to the core!

The Man even organized the tool boxes!

We got half way through another project that will hopefully be done tonight – but I can’t help myself but to give you a little preview. I am so super impressed with myself!

I asked for your help picking new fabric for our dining room chairs. They were so disgusting!

Apologies to all the guests we’ve had for dinner who had to sit on those nasty things!!

I had some help… as a DIY FYI Golden Retrievers are not much help with upholstery. They would much rather you throw hockey pucks for them than help you stretch fabric. That top tip may save you some frustration in the future!

The icky drizzle all weekend prevented us from spraying black lacquer, so hopefully The Man can do that today – but look at what a badass awesomely amazing seat re-coverer I am!!

I totally think I should go in to business! 😀
